cathedral in Burgos

Toured this huge cathedral yesterday. There was a Divinci painting inside as well as all the grandeur. Had dinner with a.family from Salt Lake city and next table over were some people I've seen walking.
Today I will bus it to Leon for the day then figure out where I will start walking again to finish in time to get to Santiago and to Madrid airport by 2 July. Looking forward to a long hot bath and really clean clothes.
Got a good rest last night. That always helps.
One thing I have noticed is that none of the toilets provide a way to dry ones hands, although a few have had hand dryer, but most have nada. So my pants have a second use. Also, my jacket has a second use as a pillow when not provided. I'm not complaining, just explaining what it is like on this walk.
Yesterday a young quite handsome Irishman passed me on the walk, pand as all folks do we said hello (hola) and Buen Camino (have a good walk on the path). This morning I sat next to him while eating breakfast. He remembered me and I found out he is a so.here and guitar player (teaches for a living). Check out his web site, WWW.keithburke.com , I haven't had time to do so.
Am waiting for a bookstore to open and then catch the bus. Until later, adios!

We left this am at 7:30. By 11:40 we were in Uterga for cafe con leche and a hot vegetable stew. We are now in Puenta La Reina for the rest of today. We wAlked 19 kilometers today, approx 12 miles. A very difficult 12 miles for sure. Many stories to tell but too hard to type on my phone. Love to all. Wish.me a buen Camino.

JUN 3, 2011Burguete
Photo taken as we departed Roncesvalles this am. Cousin Barb had foot problem, saw a Dr. and is now on antibiotics to clear up cellulitis. Staying in Burguete until she is better. Probably two or 3days.
Saw so many flowers on our walk this am. Found a lovely shop for cafe con leche and a baguette. Staying in a small but very quaint and very clean place. Seniorita is sweet too. 27 Euros a night for the room, 13 Euro each. The refugio was 10Euro ea. This is luxury and there is even a blanket. About froze last night as no heat and am not prepared for cold. Cannot carry it all. I slept in all my clothing and was still cold.

DEPARTURE DAY: June 1, 2011, Norman with my pack and poles

Emotional is the operative word for me today. Knowing I am leaving HOME and all that the word connotes is a deeply emotional experience. Embarking on a month's journey brings one down to the core of what really matters most in our lives. Waking up with Lila beside me (Norman was already up otherwise I wouldn't be mentioning Lila first) for the last time for a month brought on the tears. I had to immediately go to Norman to hug him as hard as I could knowing this trip doesn't just affect me. [Thank you Norman for having the courage to support me and also encourage me. I couldn't have done this without you.]
